Rough Waters

Intro Post

In life don’t we feel like it’s too hard? I mean, why should it be hard? If we’re doing the right things in our lives shouldn’t we receive countless blessings and not have to endure a trial? Why can’t it just be easier? It’s through our rough trials that we turn to our Savior. If things are always going our way then we may forget our Savior. That’s not to say that He can’t be with us through our times of success. The Savior is always there with us, all we have to do is realize he’s there.

“And it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a furious wind blow upon the face of the waters, towards the promised land; and thus they were tossed upon the waves of the sea before the wind.” Ether 6:5 (Book of Mormon)

These were a righteous people who did what the Lord asked of them, so why did they have to endure rough waters and hard winds? Gentle breezes push us slowly across the water, making the time to get to our destination even longer. This life is short compared to the eternities and we don’t have time to waste. It’s those harder winds that will take us places. They may be unpleasant to endure, but once they are over we can see how much progress we’ve made and they bring us closer and closer to our destination. When we go through a hard win trial we are given the chance to progress the most spiritually. Although these may be the most testing times of our lives, they are the times where we can truly grow the most.

God doesn’t just through us into trials though, he prepares us.

“And it came to pass that they were many times buried in the depths of the sea, because of the mountain waves which broke upon them, and also the great and terrible tempests which were caused by the fierceness of the wind.

And it came to pass that when they were buried in the deep there was no water that could hurt them their vessels being tight like unto a dish, and also they were tight like unto the ark of Noah; therefore when they were encompassed about by many waters they did cry unto the Lord, and he did bring them forth again upon the top of the waters.” Ether 6:6-7 (Book of Mormon)

Our trials in this life last for a small time compared to the time we have in the eternities and the eternal happiness we can gain. God is with us and he has prepared us for our trials, we just need to put our trust and faith in Him and let Him navigate us through the rough waters.
